When are the online summer coding bootcamps?
This summer, Destinations Career Academy is offering two tuition-free two-week online summer coding bootcamps:
June 15–June 25, 2020: Video Game Design and Programming (Registration ends June 10, 2020.)
July 6–July 16, 2020: Virtual Reality
Students can participate in one or both summer coding programs. Students who complete either summer coding bootcamp will have the opportunity to compete in an eSports tournament that will take place on or about July 20, 2020.
What will students learn at the Video Game Design and Programming online summer coding camp?
Students are introduced to the basics of coding through sports! In this block-coding bootcamp, students develop their own sports video games and simulations using code. Throughout the camp, students build different sports visualizations and multi-level games that can be played with friends.
What will students learn at the Virtual Reality (VR) online summer coding camp?
Our VR camp introduces students to the basics of building virtual reality worlds using HTML and the A-Frame JavaScript Library. Students develop their own virtual reality worlds that are compatible with VR devices, including smartphone VR headsets!
What time are the camps?
Students participate in a 60–90-minute session in the morning, where they learn about game design and development. They also participate in 60–90-minute afternoon sessions where students develop skills and strategies needed to compete in eSports tournaments, with a focus on Smash Bros, Fortnite, and Rocket League.
What equipment do students need?
Students will need a game console to practice game strategies and participate in the eSport tournament.
Who can enroll?
Any student entering grades 8–11 in the fall of 2020 is eligible to enroll in one or both tuition-free Destinations Career Academy online coding bootcamps.
How many coding camps can I enroll in?
Students entering grades 8–11 can enroll in both DCA tuition-free online summer coding bootcamps.
Are there limits on the number of people who can enroll?
Yes, each DCA coding bootcamp is capped at 1,200 students.
