A Healthcare Career in Action: Contact Tracing
What does a career path look like for Stride Career Prep students? Let’s take a closer look at a career that has recently been highly relevant: contact tracing.
Contact tracers work with public health departments to get in touch with all contacts of anyone diagnosed with coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), to determine exposure, assess symptoms, refer them for testing according to established protocols, and provide them with instructions for isolation or quarantine.
Career benefits:
A contact tracer position can be a great stepping-stone to a career in public health. These jobs:
Typically pay $17—$22 an hour
Frequently can be done remotely
Often do not require a college degree
Many jobs are one-year temporary positions, providing time to look for additional opportunities while earning good money and gaining valuable experience.
Stride recently partnered with networking platform Tallo to provide a quick and easy way for Stride Career Prep students interested in contact tracing to get a crash course in the subject. Students were led, step by step, through what to do, what to study, how to modify their Tallo profile, and how to stand out to contact tracing recruiters.
Healthcare Clubs for Stride Career Prep Students
Stride Career Prep students also benefit from access to a number of career clubs to help them understand their chosen industries. Healthcare clubs include:
Students in grades 6–12 can learn about in-demand nursing positions available at all education levels through monthly discussions and meetings with nurses from across the nation.
HOSA Future Health Professionals
Students can join others ready to become part of the global health community by gaining experience and training for the modern medical workplace, taking part in activities, learning from peers, and discovering more about health careers.

**Stride Career Prep is a program for grades 9–12. At some schools, career exploration is offered in middle school.
⟊Many Microsoft®️ Office certificates can be earned after completing one course. Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
